I’m Matthew — a creator, connector, and community builder. I founded GATHA to help venues become safer, more inclusive spaces where LGBTQ+ people feel not just welcome, but celebrated.
Alongside this work, I create and live with music., as 'astroscales' — an artist project that explores identity, queerness, love, and transformation through genre-shifting sound and storytelling.
GATHA is the stage I build for others. 'astroscales' is the voice I use to tell my own story. Both come from the same place: a deep belief in connection, courage, and the power of showing up as your whole self.

Biography
GATHA was born from a simple yet powerful idea: to create a platform that truly connects and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. Our founder, Matthew Steel, experienced first-hand the challenges of finding inclusive spaces and events that catered to the diverse needs of the LGBTQ+ community. He envisioned a digital solution that would not only make it easier to discover events but also foster a sense of belonging and community.
Launched in 2024, GATHA – which stands for "Gateway for Accessing Transformative Harmonious Activities – has rapidly grown from a local initiative in Sydney to Australia's premier LGBTQ+ inclusive events platform. Our journey has been one of continuous learning, growth, and celebration, much like the community we serve.
